This disease of dismissal
The act of dismissal is contagious. When you’ve been actively dismissed your whole life for a deep, consuming disease that has taken so much from you, you begin to catch the dangerous illness of inward dismissal.
Your eyes glaze over. Suddenly, you’re not battling just one disease, but two—one that is eating you alive, and another that slowly but surely paints a mask over your true self. Your tears are as invisible as the disease inside you, hiding behind what was once your beautiful, hopeful face. This disease of dismissal creates a beautiful mask—not to protect you, but to help you conform to all that they won’t, and can’t, do for you.
All we have is what’s in front of us, and what’s left inside of us. Both the inward and the outward are fading into a time that has never made space for us.
