Tell us a little about who you are and what brought you here.
Hey I’m Alexis and I’m 25 years old living with chronic illnesses including a rare condition many people don’t know about. I had the honour of having Marilyn come out during an admission. We met via Instagram and saw she was doing this project and wanted to be apart of it.
What invisible or visible part of your story do you wish more people understood?
I feel like having a catheter was always ‘disgusting’ which I honestly felt before it was my life. People mistake me to be fine and managing when it’s a daily struggle but I put on a brave face.

How did it feel to be photographed as part of Desire Lines?
I loved that it was almost natural there were no stage lights and just us chatting away.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Loved being apart of this wonderful project ❤️

This art is not for sale.
People’s pain and hardship cannot be commodified in this space. This space exists simply to inspire anyone who is struggling to cope or searching for a way through.
The art is a gift from myself and every participant. These images capture a moment in time that allowed us to realise that our pain has given us something priceless:
Wisdom and resilience.
They form the desire lines we walk as we move through each new storm we face, again and again.
