Desire Lines Reflections

Jason Weymouth

Tell us a little about who you are and what brought you here.

I’m a 1972 baby that struggled to sit still for more re than 5 minutes! I’ve always been an active person, playing sports, riding, diving, fishing and hunting! I’ve certainly pushed my luck more times than I care to admit whilst pursuing my love for life And I’ve been very fortunate with my risk management skills up until November 2024! That all changed when I fell from a hight not much over one and a half meters.

Unfortunately, I managed to somehow land on my head, causing serval fractures of my spine the worse being C1 and a 90% dissection of one of two main arteries to the rear of my scull. The recovery from these injuries is still ongoing but I thank my maker that I’m still here today to share with you all my story. And it just goes to show a positive attitude, a little resilience and a bit of hard work, you can turn things around, back in your favor.

So, enter my sister several months later, my sister brought me to you actually! She told me about your idea to capture people who had overcome adversity or misfortune in an image! I was intrigued about how you were going to capture that aspect of people and how they best managed what life had served up for them. I was committed to your project the very first time we spoke.

What invisible or visible part of your story do you wish more people understood?

Well apart from some poor posture resulting from my incident you wouldn’t know that I almost killed myself from that fall. Id like to hopefully inspire or be an example to someone who finds themselves in a similar situation. That good outcomes can and will come from a terrible experience if you use your mind in a positive way to help in the healing process. Just remember “It all works out in the end! And, if it doesn’t! It’s not the end”…

How did it feel to be photographed as part of Desire Lines?

Natural, comfortable and safe! She has a gift not only with your photography skills but her ability to communicate effectively with others, with empathy and kindness, but still managing to seamlessly keeping the experience lighthearted and engaging.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your artwork! I’m humbled and very honored that you included me. Can’t wait to see it all come together.

This art is not for sale.

People’s pain and hardship cannot be commodified in this space. This space exists simply to inspire anyone who is struggling to cope or searching for a way through.

The art is a gift from myself and every participant. These images capture a moment in time that allowed us to realise that our pain has given us something priceless:

Wisdom and resilience.
They form the desire lines we walk as we move through each new storm we face, again and again.
